I am Mya McClain, the owner of Mya's Gourmet Popcorn. By providing flavors like Bacon Cheeseburger and Totally Twix along with amazing customer service to shoppers in the Columbia Mall and on location for special events, Mya's Gourmet Popcorn has proven that it is the best gourmet popcorn provider in Columbia.
When did you receive a SEED Grant and how has it impacted your business?
I received a SEED grant in May of 2023. The grant allowed me to purchase commercial grade popcorn equipment that greatly increased the amount of popcorn that I could produce. I was able to see an over 150% increase in holiday sales from 2022 to 2023. I would not have been able to keep up with the increased demand without the equipment purchased with the SEED grant.
What does being nominated for one of our M/WBE awards mean to you?
Being nominated for one of the M/WBE awards means that Mya's Gourmet Popcorn has reached the milestone of recognition. Initially, our sales were based primarily on impulse or convenience purchases because we were in the right place at the right time. This nomination shows that we are being recognized by our customers as a brand that they trust and choose.
